Tigers release regular season schedule

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers have released their full schedule for the 2018-19 Western Hockey League season.

The team announced Monday they would begin the season with a pair of games against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The teams meet in Lethbridge on September 21, while the Tigers’ home opener is scheduled for September 22 at the Canalta Centre.

The Tigers will wrap up the season against the Hurricanes on March 16 at the Canalta Centre.

This year is the first where teams in the WHL will play 68 games in the season, down from 72. The decision was made last year by the league to reduce travel and provide more time for players to focus on training and skill development, along with their academic studies, according to a news release from the league in October.

The change brings the WHL in line with the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, which both have 68 game seasons.
