Pride association going ahead with September event

MEDICINE HAT, AB — June is Pride Month and people all over the country are celebrating.

The Medicine Hat Pride Association was hosting monthly coffee get-togethers, helping people connect in the community.

Chair Becki Korhonen said the events were all well received and they’re now hoping to host monthly barbecues over the summer.

She said the association has gone through a major shift and a lot of new faces have joined the board.

She added that whether it’s their event in September, or something else this month, it’s important to celebrate Pride.

“It’s who we are and I think what we’re celebrating is an inclusion, so it’s not that we’re trying to be one group that says ‘hey, look at us, we’re great’. What we’re trying to do is ‘hey, look at us, we’re just like you’,” she said.

Korhonen said they’re continuing with plans for their Pride Event this September.
