City to replace storm sewer on Saamis Drive

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Starting next week, drivers will not be able to access to a portion of Saamis Drive Northwest.

The city will begin work on installing a new storm sewer in the area. Access will be blocked between the Union Hall and Box Springs Road.

The work is expected to be completed by October 15, though the schedule is weather dependent.

Chris Coslovich with the City of Medicine Hat says there will still be access to Saamis Drive while the work is ongoing.

“We’ve had discussions with all of the affected businesses and landowners,” he said. “They’re all aware of it. During construction, we will always make sure that access is maintained from one end of the project to the other.

“During the phase, from Union Hall to Box Springs Road, access to the businesses will be possible off Third Street Northwest.”

Residents are reminded that speed fines are doubled in construction zones, and to be aware of flag persons and construction signage in the area.

While one road will be closed, another road will be opening up soon.

The city says First Street Southwest, which has been closed since May for gas utility work, will hopefully be open by the middle of next week.
