Workers nearly unanimous in rejecting latest contract offer at CP Rail

Calgary, AB. – The Teamsters Canada Rail conference says it’s members were nearly unanimous in rejecting the latest contract offer from CP Rail.

98.1 per cent of those who voted said no.

The federal labour minister ordered that the company offer be presented to the union members in a vote administered by the Canadian Industrial Relations board.

Turnout for the electronic vote was about 77 per cent.

The union says negotiations with the railway will resume immediately in an attempt to reach an agreement without a work stoppage.  But it will exercise the right to strike if the talks fail or CP doesn’t wish to bargain.
