BEARBERRY, AB – A 30-year-old man is dead following an “off highway,” single vehicle collision in a remote area west of Sundre, Alta.

EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux says at around 2 p.m. Saturday, STARS Air Ambulance was requested near the town of Bearberry on Highway 584.

An adult patient was being transported by a private vehicle when it was met by a ground ambulance crew from Sundre.

“The injured party [was transported] to the Bearberry Community Centre where they were met by EMS. STARS attended the scene but sadly, the 30 year old Cochrane resident, was pronounced deceased,” RCMP said in a release Sunday.

Brideaux said the victim sustained traumatic injuries.

Rocky View Deputy Fire Chief Gary Barnett confirms the man was a firefighter based at the Bearspaw Station west of Calgary.

Barnett said the victim was from Cochrane and had a young family.

RCMP continue to investigate but have determined alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
