MEDICINE HAT, AB — A suspected drug house in the Flats has the attention of the police service and officers are working with neighbours to prevent the problems from growing.

Constable Marc Seiller was in the area of Minto Avenue and Elm Street Wednesday night handing out letters to residents and asking they report any suspicious activity.

It’s part of the report a drug house initiative, which started last September.

Seiller has been active on social media, looking to get tips on problem properties from different communities around the city.

He said there are a few things neighbours should be on the look for.

“A constant flow of traffic at all hours of the day and night,” he said. “Different smells, those are kind of some of the things that you’ll see. Maybe just people that shouldn’t be in the area. you’ll have people that are just walking around that look like they shouldn’t be there.”

Other signs of a drug house may be a decline in the appearance of the home’s exterior.

Houses may also have darkened windows and unusual amounts of garbage.

Seiller said he hopes social media will allow him to reach a younger generation.

He said so far the response has been amazing.
