Colts complete game trumps Talons 10-0

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The McCoy High School Colts needed just one inning of play of offence to hand the Eagle Butte Talons their fourth loss in a row.

But the hot bats didn’t end there.

McCoy strung together five runs in the opening inning, led by a three-run jack by Wyatt Bergen on a 1-2 count, and tacked on another four in the fourth frame in a 10-0 trumping over Eagle Butte Tuesday night at Athletic Park.

It’s a strong rebound for a Tier I Colts team fresh off a win-less weekend against the Calgary Redbirds in exhibition play.

Bergen finished 2/3 at the plate with two runs and a team-leading four RBI, while Ethan Boutkan connected on 3/4 opportunities with a pair of runs.

Work at the mound was also exceptional for the Colts. Rookie Jayden Schwindt tossed aside seven batters while only allowing a single walk and four hits in all five innings.

Eagle Butte’s four hits came from Hunter Hankel and Tyler Bang, who both went 2/2 at the plate.

Schwindt’s only moment of uncertainty came in the top of the fourth. Hankel singled on a bunt with one out, and Bang followed up with a low screamer to third base, putting a pair on base.

When put to task, the defence out of the Colts came through with a 5-4 double play to end the inning.

McCoy now improves to 2-2 in SAHSBL action, while Eagle Butte falls to 4-0. The Colts return to action Thursday night, hosting the Vauxhall Vikings at 5:30 p.m. at Athletic Park, while the Talons have the rest of April off and won’t return to game action until next Tuesday in Brooks.
