Cypress County puts fire restriction in place

DUNMORE, AB — A fire restriction is now in place for Cypress County.

Fire Chief Kelly Mayer announced the restriction on Monday. The restriction means all fire permits have been cancelled.

According to the order, the restriction is in effect due to “high fuel load” remaining from last year, along with the “unpredictable weather patterns” the county has been experiencing.

Fire restrictions mean permitted burning is restricted due to the conditions. The order says upon special request, fire permits may be issued once an inspection has been completed by the Cypress County Fire Chief or the Deputy Fire Chief. The order, however, says the special request must prove a controlled burn is necessary to the livelihood of the permit holder.

A similar restriction is currently in place in the MD of Acadia.
