Medicine Hat’s Schreiner leads after opening day of Indoor Rodeo

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Opening night results are in from the Broncs and Honky Tonks Spring Indoor Rodeo from the Cypress Centre, with a number of locals in action.

Medicine Hat’s Kevin Schreiner and his teammate Braidy Davies posted a blistering time of 4.7 seconds in the team roping slack event, giving them the overall lead after the opening day.

Travis Nickolson from Seven Persons and his partner Rhett Haveroen meanwhile posted a score of zero, putting them into a tie for last place.

Medicine Hat’s Tyler Popescul was unable to put on a show in front of his home town fans in tie-down roping, failing to register a score on Friday.

Logan Hofer out of Magrath finished with the best score in tie-down roping after the opening draw with a time of 8.3 seconds.

In saddle bronc, Maple Creek’s Michael Gordon was bucked off in his first attempt and sits at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of zero.

Kole Ashbacher from Arrowwood had the top score of the day on ‘Southern Lights’ after posting a 78 to hold a three-point lead for first.

Bowden’s Ky Marshall had the top score of 87 in the bareback riding competition, while Carman Pozzobon from Aldergrove, B.C. led the way in ladies barrel racing with a time of 13.163 seconds.

Luke Gee from Stanford, Montana is in the rare position of two first place finishes on opening day, leading steer wrestling with a time of 4.6 seconds and bull riding with a score of 80.5 points.

The second night of performances will be held at the Cypress Centre on Saturday starting at 7:00 pm.
