Several local projects listed as unfunded capital projects

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Several Medicine Hat and area projects are listed on the province’s sunshine list in Budget 2018.

The unfunded capital project list features projects that do qualify for funding in their respective departments, but will not be funded in Budget 2018. The list can be updated to address emerging needs and issues around Alberta.

One of the first local projects that appears on the list intersection improvement at the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 3 intersection.

In addition, two local education projects have made the list.

A modernization of Connaught School, which was also listed in the 2017 budget, has once again made the list. SD76 listed it as their top priority last year, noting the school, built in 1912, has not received a significant update since a new addition was added in 1952. A modernization of the school is estimated to cost $10.8 million.

Burdett School, part of the Prairie Rose School Division, is also on the list. The division has a complete modernization of the school as its top priority among capital projects.

The government said during the budget ,20 new school will be built throughout the province, with $400 million set aside for consturction. In addition, 600 new teachers and 300 new support workers will be added to the classroom.
