McMorris wins slopestyle title at Burton US Open for second straight year
VAIL, Colo. — Canadian Mark Morris became the first snowboarder to win the Burton U.S. Open slopestyle title in back-to-back years, scoring 88.1 points on his final run Friday.
The Regina native fell on his first two runs of finals, including a hard slam to the ribs in his second before stomping his final run.
McMorris landed a frontside triple cork 1440 and backside triple cork 1440 on his third run to take home gold for the second year in a row.
“All the work is definitely paying off today,” McMorris said. “There’s so many people I want to thank for helping me get back to being able to do this. I’m snowboarding every day and at the level I want to be. This brings me the ultimate joy being able to ride to the best of my ability on a day that it matters.”
