BOW ISLAND, AB — Capital Power will be giving residents in Bow Island and the County of 40 Mile an update on a future wind project on Wednesday.

The second open house for the Whitla Wind Project runs Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Bow Island Legion (205 Fifth Avenue East).

The open house will provide information to the community about the project, and will allow members of the public to ask questions. Representatives from Capital Power will be in hand for the open house.

The company is also hosting an information session for vendors and local companies on Thursday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., also at the Bow Island Legion.

In December, The Whitla Wind Project was announced as one of the first three wind power projects awarded a contract during the first bidding round for Alberta’s Renewable Electricity Program.

The project, which would be located approximately 15 kilometres south of Bow Island, would be constructed in two phases and would generate 201 megawatts of power once operational.

The application to build has been sent to the Alberta Utilities Commission and is currently awaiting approval. Capital Power has told CHAT News they are hoping to begin construction in late 2018, with the facility going online in late 2019.
