Tigers look to get back into win column against Oil Kings
MEDICINE HAT, AB – A hockey season is full of adversity; something the Medicine Hat Tigers have certainly dealt with lately.
Poor driving conditions held up the team en route to Cranbrook Friday night, forcing a late departure back home following their game against the Kootenay Ice. Michael Bullion back-stopped the Tabbies to a narrow 3-2 victory over the Ice, but came down with illness ahead of Saturday’s contest against Brandon.
That made way for rookie Kaeden Lane, who made his first career WHL start in the blue paint. Medicine Hat erased a two-goal third period deficit despite playing on short rest. Ryan Chyzwoski appeared to score the game winner right at the buzzer, but after a lengthy review by the officials, it was ultimately ruled no-goal on time expiration. Wheat Kings forward Cole Reinhardt scored in overtime, ending the Tigers three-game win streak. 16-year-old Lane was cooled in the crease, facing just 14 shots.
The Tabbies now face the challenge of putting the loss behind them in Edmonton, battling the Oil Kings for the fifth time this season. The last time both teams squared off, the Tigers cruised to a 6-0 victory, leading 4-0 after 20 minutes of play.
