EDMONTON — Alberta’s Education Minister is looking for junior and senior high students to join the latest version of the province’s Youth Council.

Applications for the council opened up on Monday. Approximately 32 junior and senior high students will be selected for the council, and Education Minister David Eggen is encouraging students of all backgrounds, identities and perspectives to be part of the 2018/2019 council.

“Your voice matters – and I want to hear from you on how we can work together to make life better for all Alberta students,” said Eggen in a statement. “This year’s Minister’s Youth Council has been a great experience and I look forward to what next year has in store.”

The council hosts its first meeting in September, and periodically meets to provide information and insight to Minister Eggen. The council also helps students improve their leadership skills.

Daniel Tirado-Ribero, a student at Monsignor McCoy High School, was a member of the most recent council.

Applications have opened up for students aged 13-19, and those interested can fill them out here. The deadline is March 30.
