Candidate for governor makes splashy Super Bowl debut
ATLANTA — A candidate for Georgia governor made his TV debut Sunday night by jumping into the deep end with a splashy 60-second Super Bowl ad .
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Republican Clay Tippins’ Super Bowl ad buy cost $250,000. The commercial aired in the Albany, Columbus and Macon media markets Sunday during the game and begins airing Monday in the pricier Atlanta market.
The commercial focuses on Tippins’ background as a collegiate swimmer at Stanford, and as a Navy Seal and businessman. He mocks his four leading Republican opponents by showing their likenesses hand-to-hand in a bumbling synchronized swimming routine.
The commercial takes direct aim at one of Tippins’ better known opponents, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. It shows an actor wearing a powder blue tuxedo and wearing a tape measure around his neck. Cagle began his career as the owner of a tuxedo rental company in Gainesville, Georgia.
