MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police have arrested a Medicine Hat man in connection with an assault which took place two weeks ago.

Darren George Brooks, 37, was arrested by Medicine Hat police on Nov. 10 after executing two search warrants. He has been charged with break and enter, aggravated assault, uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.

Police responded to the apartment complex on 2399 Southview Drive SE on October 28, where a man was found suffering from serious injuries in a main floor apartment. The details of his injuries are unknown, but Sgt. Stacey Kesler said they are “life altering” injuries.

The victim remains in hospital, according to police.

Kesler says strong street-level police work helped lead to the arrest.

Brooks made his first appearance in Medicine Hat provincial court on Tuesday, where his case was adjourned to November 29.

Brooks has not yet retained legal counsel, and remains in custody.
