MEDICINE HAT, AB – A pair of Medicine Hat College students represented Canada at the “Olympics of the Trades” competition one week ago.

Tanner Tendler, a heavy vehicle maintenance apprentice, and Justin Fischer, a plumbing apprentice, competed at the WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi.

Tendler and Fischer had a long road to Abu Dhabi. The journey began at Medicine Hat College in April, when the two competed in the South East Regional Skills Alberta competition. When they achieved top scores, they advanced to the provincial competition in Edmonton, then the national competition in Moncton, New Brunswick. The pair earned the right to compete in Abu Dhabi following a three-day qualifying trial at the college in February.

Team Canada finished with one bronze medal in the competition, and Tendler earned a medal of excellence for his performance.
