MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games committee presenting its final report to City Council Monday night.

The report highlights the success of the event.

Despite temperatures pushing 40 degrees the committee said athletes, coaches and volunteers managed quite well.

Final financial numbers still need to be approved, but the committee said the game generated about $100,000 in revenue.

The money will be split between Special Olympics Alberta and the local chapter of the organization.

The local group will get a $10,000 grant off the bat, the remaining $40,000 will be placed in an investment fund and the group will receive the interest money it generates.

Vice Chair of the committee, Dr. Ken Sauer, said the money will help current and future athletes reach their full potential.

“It will help them do some small projects, go to other games and participate, or maybe even help them go to world games,” explained Sauer. “And we have some world winners here by the way, gold and silver winners.”
