12 year old girl remains in critical condition after fatal Highway 1 crash

A 12-year old girl involved in a deadly crash east of Dunmore is still in critical condition, according to police.

The crash took place on Monday afternoon, just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 41. All emergency resources in Medicine Hat and Cypress County responded to the call.

The collision, which involved a Pontiac Sunfire and a semi-truck, left one nine year old girl dead.

The driver of the vehicle, and two 12 year old twin girls, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver and one of the girls are now reported to be stable, while the other remains critical.

As a result of the collision, traffic on Highway 1 was diverted for several hours. The scene was clear after 10:15 p.m., and a cause for the crash has not yet been released by the RCMP.
