MEDICINE HAT, AB — Two steps forward, one step back for the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Manager Mike Thompson confirmed on Tuesday the team has added Chris Caffrey and Chris Rodriguez to the infield.

Caffrey is fresh off a strong performance with the Southeast Missouri Redhawks, batting a .312 average with 28 RBI’s in 36 games.

Rodriguez, who will join Thompson’s Lions in Vanguard University next fall, posted 26 hits in 26 games with Golden West with a .325 batting average.

These two additions come at a good time, seeing Andrew Carter has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with back spasms. Carter is a valuable asset to any ball club, working as both a pitcher and outfielder. He’s batted six games for the Mavericks, sporting a .296 average with eight hits and six RBI’s.

Thompson says he’s hoping with a few days rest Carter will be back soon.

Medicine Hat hits the road on Tuesday to battle the defending WMBL Champion Swift Current 57’s at Mitchell Field. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
