Council to decide if fire services can perform medical first response

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat City Council is meeting Monday evening with a full list on the agenda.

But one of the items is something that has been talked about in the past. Will city council approve Medicine Hat Fire Department performing medical first response (MFR)?

Chief Stauth said he is in favour of the fire department performing first aid, as fire has historically been involved in medical response from 1994 to 2005.

Medicine Hat Fire Services said they will be able to effectively manage medical calls without impacting the budget, as training will be provided by Alberta Health Services.

At Monday’s meeting, the Administrative Committee and Public Service Committee will be asking City Council to approve the agreement of Alberta Health Services providing medical response to the fire department.
