Medicine Hat, AB — The Medicine Hat College men’s basketball team improved their current win streak to 6 games while the men’s volleyball team saw their 12 game win streak snapped on a busy Saturday at the Snake Pit.

MBB: In a tightly contested, low scoring affair between the Rattlers and Kodiaks MHC used a late surge to come away with a 68-56 win helping them keep apace with SAIT for top spot in the ACAC South Division.

Gui Fuck had a double-double with a game high 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Rattlers, as Salissou Abdoul Kader also turned in a strong showing finishing the night with 15 points. Jordan Wynter chipped in 13 while Stephen Jones dropped 11 coming off the bench. Jones also had some huge offensive boards late in the game helping to seal things for the Rattlers.

MVB: A night after knocking off one of the top ranked teams in the nation in 5 sets, MHC found themselves on the losing end of another marathon match Saturday afternoon against Red Deer College (20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-13).

Leading the way for the Rattlers was All-Canadian Isak Helland-Hansen. He had 13 kills and 11 digs, while Joel Kotyk ended the afternoon with 10 kills and 14 digs. Alfred Dalevik also had a good game for MHC with 13 kills and 9 digs.

Regan Fathers was a one man wrecking crew for RDC as he turned in a 19 kill 12 dig performance. MHC still has a 2 point advantage over the Kings in the south standings heading into the final week of play, and a single win against Lethbridge next weekend will ensure them the number one spot heading into playoffs.

WBB: It was a tough day for both Rattler women’s court teams. Facing undefeated Lethbridge the women’s basketball team lost 81-44. Logan Moncks and Sunder West both had more than 20 points for the Kodiaks as Megan Getz had a team high 17 for the Rattlers. Kennedy Werre of MHC finished with a double-double (12 pts/13 reb).

WVB: Taking on the second place RDC Queens, the last placed Rattlers lost a heartbreaker in straight sets (25-20, 28-26, 29-27). MHC had the lead in both the second and third sets of the match but couldn’t finish off the Queens, and head coach Kim Stonehouse noted they need to work on their killer instinct. Miranda Dawe had 13 kills and 14 digs for RDC, while Amber Stigter had a match high 17 finishes. Shaya Suchy of MHC finished with 14 scoops.

The basketball teams will take on SAIT this upcoming weekend, while the volleyball squads square off against Lethbridge.
