EDMONTON — A lawyer and member of the Progressive Conservative party his filed an official complaint on Thursday against Jason Kenney’s campaign, seeking his removal from the leadership race.

Jeffrey Rath has submitted a 33 page complaint to the party, saying Kenney’s campaign is in violation of party ethics, due to harming the party’s brand.

Rath alleges Kenney, who is running on a promise to unite the Progressive Conservative and Wildrose parties, has damaged the party’s reputation by saying the party can’t win an election without a merger.

Kenney responded to the claim on Twitter, saying he was “very disappointed.” Kenney also tweeted that Rath is involved with the campaign of Richard Starke, who is also seeking to be leader of the party.

Rath confirmed he is involved with Starke’s campaign, but says his complaint is independent.

The complaint will be reviewed next week

The party votes for a new leader on March 18. Kenney, Starke and Byron Nelson are the three candidates.
