Five-game winning streak on the line for Tigers

CRANBROOK, B.C. — The Medicine Hat Tigers look to extend their latest winning streak to five games Wednesday night, as they open up a three-game road trip in Cranbrook, B.C. against the Kootenay Ice.

Scoring hasn’t been a problem for the black-and-orange as of late, but the Ice gave them a run for their money Tuesday at the Canalta Centre. Medicine Hat overcame a two-goal deficit in the second period to win 4-3. That also improved the Tigers record against the Ice to 4-0 this season.

“It felt good to come out in the third period and start with a goal,” said John Dahlstrom, reflecting his gam-winner from Tuesday. “With it ending up as the game winning goal it also felt good.”

Mason Shaw, full face mask and all, scored the Tigers opening goal to tie the game 1-1 in the first period. The draft-eligible 18-year-old comes into this one finding the twine in each of his last five games, while riding an 11-game point streak.

“It’s not the greatest for sure,” said Shaw on playing with his new facial accessory. “It get’s a lot more hot and sweaty in there. But it’s going to have to do for now. I definitely look forward to getting back to the visor when that time comes.”

Captain Clay Kirichenko has also stepped up lately, scoring goals in three of his last four games. Not only has he added a load of offense to the back-end, but it comes at a good time with David Quenneville and Ty Schultz recovering from lower body injuries. Both players aren’t expected to return for another 1-3 weeks.

Michael Bullion gets the nod in goal after relieving Nick Schneider early in last night’s second period. The 19-year-old Alaskan stopped all nine shots he faced to secure the 4-3 victory.

Game time is 7:00pm MST. Bob Ridley has play-by-play, along with the pre-game show beginning at 6:45pm on CHAT 94.5 FM.
