MEDICINE HAT  —  It took a lot more effort than expected, but the Medicine Hat Tigers managed to push their current win streak to four games Tuesday night.

Mason Shaw, fully caged helmet and all, picked up a goal and an assist as the Tabbies overcame two separate deficits in a 4-3 victory.

Kootenay, who’s won just twice in their last 10 games, caught the home team by surprise to start. Brett Davis scored less than five minutes into the game to give the Ice an early lead.

Shaw, who’s recovering from dental surgery after having a molar knocked out Saturday night, tied the game late in the opening frame, knotting it up 1-1 through 20 minutes. That period saw Kootenay outshoot the Tigers for the first time all season 18-15.

Kootenay jumped out to a two-goal lead in the second period, which included Davis’ second of the night. Nick Schneider was pulled following his third allowed goal, which came on the first two shots of the second period. Michael Bullion came in for relief.

The Tigers completed their second comeback of the game thanks to captain Clayton Kirichenko and Mark Rassell each scoring late in the second period. That was part of a middle frame dominated by the home-team, leading the shot department 19-5.

Rookie John Dahlstrom deflected home his 23rd goal of the season early in the third period, giving the black-and-orange their first lead of the game. That goal served as the game winner, Dahlstrom’s third of the season.

Bullion’s best save of the night came with 1:03 to go, ripping a hard snap-shot from Vince Loschiavo out of the air with his glove hand. He stopped all nine shots faced.

These two battle once again tomorrow night from the Western Financial Place in Cranbrook, B.C. Puck drop is 7:00pm
