Redcliff council considers rebranding town

Jan 24, 2017 | 3:40 PM

Redcliff, AB — Redcliff has been known as the Greenhouse Capital of the Prairies for at least four decades if not longer, according to Mayor Ernie Reimer.

But when Redcliff town council met on Monday, discussion occurred about that possibly not being a reality for much longer.

Theresa Hardiker, executive director for the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta, proposed to council that the town needed a new identity.

Mayor Reimer said that the issue has been ongoing for the last year and a half.

He agrees that it’s something that needs to be looked into, but understands that it may lead to some challenges.

“We might have some feedback from the folks who decided to call it the Greenhouse Capital of the Prairies,” he said.

He said council does want to encompass the entire community so that all businesses and citizens are involved in the decision.

Mayor Reimer said the EDA is working closely with council on the idea.

“They have a lot of contacts and methods to get this done,” he said.

The EDA will have forms available where people can share their thoughts and ideas for the rebranding.

If the town is rebranded, changes won’t take into effect for the next two to three years.
