MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team is welcoming one of their offensive powerhouses back to the court this weekend.

Jordan Wynter, who was forced to sit out during the first semester due to academic ineligibility, returned to the lineup last week, and is ready for second semester basketball to get underway. The Rattlers take on the Briercrest College Clippers on Friday and Saturday in Caronport, Saskatchewan.

“It feels good to be back man,” said Wynter following a team practice earlier this week. “The team did a great job without me, and I can’t complain man. We’re still top three in Canada.”

Wynter dressed for the first two games of the season for the Rattlers —games the Rattlers won — when his academic ineligibility was discovered. The Rattlers had to forfeit the games, which remain the only losses through the season.

Wynter, who is also the team captain, says he missed being able to get behind the bench with the Rattlers.

“You want to be out there with your team, even giving them energy on the bench,” he said. “I like bringing that spark and energy to the team, so it is great to just see them keeping up in the win column.”

In his first game back last week, Wynter played 23 minutes, scoring 13 points in the Rattlers 96-58 win over the NAIT Ooks in an exhibition game. NAIT has since dropped from 3rd in the CCAA National Rankings to 7th, while the Rattlers have taken over 3rd.

The Clippers, who sit in fifth place in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference south division, are one of the teams the Rattlers had to forfeit their wins to. Wynter says the Rattlers are going to come out strong during the games this weekend.

“We really want to go out and show the rest of the league that we mean business, and just take it to them,” he said.

The two teams hit the court at 8 p.m. Friday and at 3 p.m. Saturday.
