The Brooks Bandits extended their winning streak to three games with a 6-2 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters on Wednesday night at the Centennial Regional Arena.

The Bandits scored four goals in a span of five minutes and three seconds in the opening period to take control of the game.

Dmitrijs Dilevka opened the scoring at 6:03 with his sixth goal of the season. Alexandre Monarque followed with his fifth, extending his point streak to seven games.

Koby Francis added another goal a minute and 11 seconds later, before Christophe Lussier made it 4-0 just 16 seconds afterward. Lussier now has five goals in his last three games.

Trail responded with a goal from Colton Whitfield late in the first period and another from Jaden Sikura early in the second to cut the deficit to two.

Tommy Holtby restored the Bandits’ three-goal cushion by tipping in an Isaac Suh point shot to make it 5-2.

Suh recorded his second assist in as many games after beginning the season on the injured reserve list.

Alexei Zhukov added the final goal in the third period, a power-play marker.

Goaltender Joseph Quintilo turned aside 27 of 29 shots to earn his first career win as a Bandit in his second career start.

Former Medicine Hat resident Marek Schlenker started in net for the Smoke Eaters; he was pulled at 10:43 in the first after allowing three goals on eight shots. Chayse Johnson stopped 16 of 19 shots in relief.

With the win, the Bandits remain first in the British Columbia Hockey League’s Interior East Division with a 9-4-2-0 record. They have a three-point cushion on the Okotoks Oilers and four points on the Blackfalds Bulldogs.

Brooks continues its homestand Saturday, Nov. 7, against the Sherwood Park Crusaders at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
