Nov 5, 2026 | 12:08 AM

In a game the Tigers never led, Liam Ruck recorded his second career hat trick and tied his career-high in points as the Medicine Hat Tigers overcame a three-goal deficit to defeat the Portland Winterhawks 6-5 in overtime.

Tyson Moss would score the winner with 43 seconds left in the extra frame, working a shot through the legs of a stickless Avery Laliberte and past Ondrej Stebetak to seal the two points for the Tabbies.

Trailing 3-0 entering the second period, Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll and Liam Ruck would score 15 seconds apart to quickly cut the Portland lead to one.

Seven minutes later, Jake Burmis would deflect home his second of the season and after a lengthy review, the game was tied at three.

Portland’s Jordan Duguay would retake the one-goal lead off a turnover behind the Tiger net, wrapping one past the near post to make it 4-3.

Liam Ruck would tie the game back at four with his second point of the night after being left alone on the near post and working a backhander off the shoulder of Stebetak and in to tie the game back up.

Jordin St. Louis would once again restore the one-goal Portland advantage, rifling a wrist-shot past the glove of Carter Casey.

Liam Ruck would complete the hat-trick with 32 seconds remaining in the middle frame after Kadon McCann pounced on a Stebetak turnover and put a quick shot on goal, with Liam standing in front to clean up the rebound.

The third period would prove fruitless on the scoresheet setting the stage for the eventual Tyson Moss overtime winner.

Casey made 24 saves in the win, and the Tiger penalty kill went 3-for-3, while the man advantage went 0-for-1 and allowed a short-handed goal to open the scoring.

Stebetak made 43 saves in the loss for Portland.

The Tigers continue the back half of their U.S. Division road trip Friday night against the Everett Silvertips.
