Tigers aim for third straight win as they battle Winterhawks

Nov 4, 2026 | 12:50 PM

After a three-day hiatus, the Medicine Hat Tigers continue their U.S. Division road trip tonight against the Portland Winterhawks as the club aims for their first three-game win streak of the season.

The Tigers enter tonight feeling confident, following a 5-1 Halloween night win over the Tri-City Americans, where the team exploded for four first-period goals.

After a 7-2 loss to the Wenatchee Wild to begin the trip last Wednesday, the Tigers have strung together back-to-back wins over the Spokane Chiefs and Americans.

Tonight’s game against the Winterhawks will mark the fourth straight game the Tigers have faced a team with a top-five defence, with Portland allowing the second-fewest goals per game in the WHL.

Medicine Hat forward Markus Ruck rides a six-game point streak into tonight, with nine points over that span, while fellow forward Josh Evaschesen has found his scoring touch lately with goals in five of his last six games.

Portland enters tonight following a 4-2 loss to the Kelowna Rockets in a game where they allowed three special-teams goals to Kelowna, including a short-handed game-winner from former Medicine Hat Tigers defenceman Nate Corbet.

The Winterhawks have been in close games all season long, with 11 of their 13 games having been decided by two goals or less, including eight straight entering tonight.

Last season, the Tigers took down the Winterhawks 5-0 inside Co-op Place with Carter Casey recording his first career WHL shutout, a result the Tigers will aim to replicate tonight.

Puck drop from Veterans Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. MDT, with the pre-game show beginning at 8:45 p.m. on WILD 94.5 FM.
