Blue-green algae advisory lifted for Reesor Lake on Tuesday

Alberta Health Services announced Tuesday that it has lifted a blue-green algae advisory for Reesor Lake.

Reesor Lake, located in Cypress Hills, was among several Alberta water bodies included in the provincewide update as cooler weather reduced the risk to recreational users.

AHS said cyanobacterial, or blue-green algae, advisories and water quality advisories across Alberta were lifted because of cooler conditions and a low risk to public health during recreation.

Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, can occur naturally in lakes and reservoirs.

Conditions can change, and AHS advises people to remain aware of water conditions when visiting recreational areas.

Blue-green algae were identified in the water at Reesor Lake during the summer, prompting the now-rescinded advisory.
