Youth movement sweeps through Canadian women’s hockey team for world championship
CALGARY — Canada will ice a younger team at the women’s world hockey championship than it did at the Olympic Games.
Hockey Canada announced Monday its 25-player roster for the world championship Nov. 6-16 in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark.
The average age of the Canadian team dropped to 25.8 after an older edition at 29.2 years lost 2-1 in overtime to the United States in February’s Olympic final in Italy.
“What this roster is all about is that we do believe that as we’re preparing for the world championship this year, we’re also in a position to build towards 2030,” Canada’s general manager Danièle Sauvageau said Monday.
