Downtown Days returns in Medicine Hat this weekend

Aug 21, 2026 | 4:12 PM

Downtown Medicine Hat will come alive this weekend as Downtown Voice brings back its annual Downtown Days celebration, offering two days of shopping, food, live entertainment and family activities.

The event runs Friday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Aug. 22, with participating businesses opening their doors for Moonlight Madness Friday evening before the downtown core transforms into a pedestrian-friendly event space.

Road closures begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and will remain in place through Saturday, covering the 600 block of 2 Street SE and the 400, 500 and 600 blocks of 3 Street SE.

Friday’s festivities will include extended hours at participating downtown businesses, while tickets for Saturday’s Food & Beverage Expo go on sale at 10 a.m. at CORE at 412 3 Street SE.

Saturday will offer a full slate of activities, including the Food & Beverage Expo, sidewalk sales, a classic car show, a kids’ corner, cornhole games and live music and DJs throughout the day, with local band Snakes and the Riot scheduled to take the stage at 6 p.m.

Organizers said the event is designed to showcase the businesses, entertainment and community spirit found in the downtown core.

With much of the downtown area closed to traffic, visitors will have the opportunity to walk between shops, restaurants and event activities while taking in the weekend’s entertainment.

Free parking will be available at several locations, including the Transit Terminal, Town Square and Esplanade parking lots after 6 p.m. on Friday and throughout Saturday.

Free Saturday parking will also be available in the S Railway Street parking lot.

Visitors can also use free two-hour parking on streets not affected by the closures, including stalls along River Road SE.
