Two days of Indian Relay Races wrapped up in Medicine Hat on Sunday afternoon.

Two Medicine’s Jesse Carlson claimed the 2026 Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede title.

The announcer spoke to Carlson about how he started early in the championship race in fourth place.

“I started out in the back. Relay is a lot like life. Sometimes you don’t get a head start in life, and you’re in the back,” Carlson said after the race.

“And you just got to keep going and do your best every time. I do my best, and I end up in front.”

He went on to talk about self-belief.

“That goes along with life, guys. You guys, just keep going and believe in yourself. Anything that you guys do in your job, for that promotion, whatever you guys are trying to do, something personal, lose weight, anything. You guys are incredible,” Carlson said.

“Everybody’s got Jesus and God inside them. You guys have all got greatness inside you, just like I know I have, just like my boys have right here,” he added.

“I want you all to look inside yourselves and find that greatness inside you guys. What pushes you guys every day to get up and go get done, go get the day done. And so, yeah, just keep that in mind.”

He finished by mentioning what he wanted the crowd to take away from his speech.

“If you’re going to take away anything from me, just know I’m not the most talented guy out here, I’m not the tallest, I’m not the fastest, I’m not the strongest, but I’ve got a heart as big as these grandstands, and that’s all I need,” Carlson said in conclusion.

Two Medicine is based out of the Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Mont.

Crazy Cree’s Tyrell McGilvery won the consolation finals, and his team also won the aggregate regional title.

Scoring for the aggregate also included events in Lloydminster and Grande Prairie.

Crazy Cree is based out of the Heart Lake First Nation north of Lac La Biche, Alta.

They also won at the Calgary Stampede in July.
