Mavericks drop fifth straight game with loss to Regina Red Sox Tuesday

Jul 22, 2026 | 9:53 AM

The Medicine Hat Mavericks dropped a 9-2 decision to the Regina Red Sox on Tuesday night at Athletic Park, extending their losing streak to five games.

The Mavericks entered the matchup looking to rebound after a 7-2 loss to the league-leading Moose Jaw Miller Express on Monday, while Regina came into the game holding a half-game lead over Medicine Hat in the Western Canadian Baseball League East Division standings.

Medicine Hat and Regina were separated by one game in the season series heading into Tuesday’s contest, with the Mavericks trailing 4-3.

The Red Sox controlled the game offensively, adding to their recent momentum with a fourth straight victory.

Medicine Hat was unable to generate enough offence to close the gap, as the Mavericks continued to search for consistency during a difficult stretch.

The loss drops the Mavericks to 17-26 on the season, leaving them fifth in the six-team East Division, 14 games behind the first-place Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Regina improves to 17-23 with the win, moving one game ahead of Medicine Hat in the standings and taking a 5-3 lead in the season series.

The Mavericks have now lost eight of their last 10 games, as they continue their push for a turnaround in the second half of the WCBL season.

Medicine Hat will look to end its skid on Wednesday night when they host the Swift Current 57s at Athletic Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

The Mavericks will then hit the road for a pair of games against the Moose Jaw Miller Express on July 24 and 30, before returning home for a two-game series against the Weyburn Beavers on July 25 and 26.
