Canada Day celebrations start Tuesday with Glow Up the Globe Festival

Medicine Hat is gearing up for a full slate of Canada Day celebrations in Kin Coulee Park.

Festivities begin Tuesday at 5 p.m. with the Glow Up the Globe Festival, featuring family activities, cultural food vendors and an evening dance party with performers. From 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., there will be a laser show and DJs.

The Tepee Village is also set up as part of the White Horse Riders Teepee project.

Canada Day celebrations on Wednesday begin with Yoga at 8 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m.

The day also includes sports, live entertainment, food trucks, jump castles, kids’ activities, and an artisan market.

There will be speeches from dignitaries, citizenship recognition, and free cake from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Local bands start playing at 6 p.m. with The Accomplice, Jessikah Babe and the Hey! What’s That?, and Mahoney.

A free concert by Juno Award-winning artist Gowan starts at 9 p.m.

The winning number of the 50/50 draw will be announced at 11 p.m., and fireworks are set for 11:05 p.m.

The annual Beat the Heat Skateboard Competition also returns for its 20th year, with amateur skateboarders from across the country competing in what organizers say is Canada’s largest amateur skateboarding event. It runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Medicine Hat Transit will be running statutory holiday service on Canada Day as part of a pilot project.

Buses will operate from Wednesday from 8:15 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., marking the second of three statutory holidays included in the 2026 pilot.

The City says there won’t be dedicated on-demand or adaptive transit service, but all regular buses are wheelchair accessible.
