Headlining Music act announced for Canada Day celebration in Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat’s Canada Day Society has announced that Juno Award-winning artist Gowan will be performing a free concert in Kin Coulee Park on Canada Day.

The show will take place at 9 p.m. on July 1, and additional local acts will be announced soon.

Lawrence Gowan‘s solo career includes four platinum and three gold albums, and one gold single. He joined the band Styx in 1999 as a keyboardist and one of their three lead vocalists.

The Canadian musicians well-known songs include, Strange Animal and A Criminal Mind. Styx is known for their song Mr. Roboto.

The Medicine Hat and District Canada Day Association said in a statement that they look to create a low-cost, family-friendly, culturally inclusive event for the whole family.

Celebrations centred around Canada Day will also include the Taste of Medicine Hat cultural celebration on June 30, and the Glow Up the Globe dance party.

The July 1 Family Festival will be capped off with a fireworks show in the evening.

During the day, Canada’s largest amateur skateboard competition, Beat the Heat 2026, will take place at Kin Coulee Skate Park.

The skateboarding event is celebrating 20 years in 2026.
