Medicine Hat-area tornadoes confirmed after severe storm on June 16 in southern Alberta
Three tornadoes touched down in the Medicine Hat area during a severe thunderstorm that moved through southern Alberta on June 16, according to a preliminary assessment tied to a regional damage survey.
The findings come from a joint review by Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Northern Tornadoes Project, following reports of hail, strong winds, heavy rain and tornado activity across the region.
For the Medicine Hat area, the survey identified two tornadoes that touched down in Tilley and another in Seven Persons, all currently rated EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, the lowest rating, indicating relatively weak tornado strength.
The report noted the ratings remain preliminary and could be updated if additional information becomes available.
