The Bandlands Sun Devils lacrosse team split their games on the weekend.

On Saturday night at the Kinplex during the annual LAX to the MAX event, the Junior B team showcased their skills against the Southern Alberta Chaos out of Taber.

The Chaos came into the contest undefeated and narrowly remained so with a 10-9 win over the Sun Devils.

Ty Hynes led the offensive push for the Sun Devils with four goals and an assist, with affiliated player Karver Kish not far behind with three goals and an assist.

Connor Materi drove the offense for the Chaos with five goals and two assists.

The game was a back-and-forth contest, with the Chaos finding a way to even things up each time the Sun Devils jumped out to a lead.

In the first period, the Sun Devils had jumped out to a 2-0 lead early before the Chaos would tie it up at two with 13:53 remaining.

The Sun Devils regained the lead with Hynes’ hat-trick goal just nine seconds later.

A Chaos goal with 11:01 remaining in the first would tie it at three, then after the Sun Devils scored again, the Chaos would respond to tie it at four at the end of one.

The Chaos wouldn’t take their first lead until 11:22 remaining in the second period, going up 6-5, before the Sun Devils evened it up just over a minute later.

The score sat at 8-7 for the Chaos going into the third period.

A pair of power play goals for the Chaos would extend the lead to 10-7, with the Sun Devils falling just short of the comeback with a pair of goals later in the third.

Sunday in Didsbury, the Sun Devils won 8-6 over the Mountain View Stingers.

A smaller roster for the away contest had Brolin Vanderspruit and Hunter Skrove provide the bulk of the offence. Vanderspruit finished with four goals and two assists, and Skrove had three goals and two assists.

The Sun Devils jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first period and never trailed in the contest.

Next up for the Sun Devils is a home game at the Kinplex on Saturday, June 20, at 5:30 p.m. against the Rockeyview Rage Tier II team.

The Sun Devils now sit at 4-7-1 on the season for seventh spot in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Jr. B Tier II division.

At the top of the standings are the Chaos at 11-0-1.

During the LAX to the MAX Tournament in Medicine Hat, minor lacrosse teams competed in five different age categories from U9 to U17.
