Twenty-two Grade 6 students from schools across Medicine Hat were recognized on Saturday by the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) through the Chief Earl Leadership Legacy Fund.

The scholarships were presented on June 13 and recognize students who demonstrate leadership, citizenship and the core values promoted by the MHPS.

Established in 2008, the fund honours the legacy and community contributions of former police chief Gord Earl. Since its creation, 297 students have received the award.

Recipients are selected annually by elementary schools within local school districts.

The program is administered through the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta with support from the Medicine Hat Safe Community Association and the Medicine Hat Police Association.

This year’s recipients came from schools within the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education, the Medicine Hat Public School Division and local charter and private schools.
