Emission Reduction Alberta funding to benefit two businesses in Medicine Hat area

May 16, 2026 | 4:00 AM

One business in Redcliff and another in Suffield are benefiting from the Alberta government’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund, with $10.625 million in investment into the region.

Emission Reduction Alberta (ERA) has committed $69 million to accelerate a broad range of technologies and solutions, which they say will strengthen industrial competitiveness and reduce environmental impacts. The 15 projects represent $334 million in total investment.

Certainteed Canada in Redcliff is getting $10 million in funding for a $68.7 million project to upgrade insulation manufacturing to reduce energy use and emissions. The facility will provide 120-130 temporary jobs during construction and commissioning.

Total Containment Inc. in Suffield is receiving $625,000 in ERA Funding for a $1.25 million project that improves CO2 safety by preventing cracking in carbon capture infrastructure.

If successful, the funded projects through the 2025-26 Industrial Transformation Challenge are estimated to deliver average annual greenhouse gas emissions reductions of 295,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, and about 5.7 million tonnes cumulatively by 2050.

Projects are estimated to create approximately 1310 person-years of employment and $212 million in GDP for Alberta by 2027.

The provincial government says that all the projects have the potential to be replicated at additional sites in Alberta, meaning the environmental and economic impacts could scale significantly in the future.
