A yellow warning for wind is in place for the Medicine Hat area on Thursday.

The warning is also in effect for southeastern Alberta. It includes communities such as Brooks, Bow Island, Foremost, Manyberries, Elkwater, Dunmore, Irvine, and Walsh.

Environment Canada says damaging winds are expected with gusts of 90 to 100 km/h likely.

Winds will strengthen in the early morning and continue throughout the day, before weakening in the evening.

The weather provider adds that local utility outages and damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters are both possible.

Strong winds will push high-sided vehicles around.

Environment Canada says to secure loose objects, and if outside, to protect yourself from flying or falling debris.

The weather warning extends into southwest Saskatchewan, where an orange warning for wind is in place. Wind speeds are expected to range from 70 km/h to 110 km/h in the area on Thursday.
