May 13, 2026 | 8:02 AM

A special weather statement from Environment Canada is in effect for Thursday in Medicine Hat.

Alberta will have a strong low-pressure system moving through over the next few days.

Strong, potentially damaging winds are expected to develop on Thursday morning, with gusts of 90 to 100 km/h expected, before weakening in the evening.

Rainfall is also expected on Thursday, with upwards of 30 mm possible by Friday morning.

The weather provider says damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is likely, and advises preparing for potential disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities.

Driving conditions are also likely to be very difficult, with high-sided vehicles possibly overturned by the wind.

Securing loose objects is recommended, and if outside, to protect yourself from potential flying or falling debris.

The weather statement issued Wednesday morning extends from west of Edmonton and southeast throughout Saskatchewan.
