🛍 Mother’s Day Market at First Assembly

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

First Assembly of God on the Southeast Hill is hosting a two-day Mother’s Day Market on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over 35 vendors are expected on site each day.

🫖 Spring Tea and Bake Sale

FRIDAY

The Core Association in downtown Medicine Hat is hosting its Spring Tea and Bake Sale on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $10 each, with funds raised supporting the association’s building of a sensory-friendly home for adults with autism.

A space they say will be designed to foster independence, comfort, well-being, and a safe, supportive environment where individuals can thrive.

There will also be raffles at the event.

🎪 The Great Benjamins Circus

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY

The Great Benjamins Circus is at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Grounds all weekend, with an all-new show for the 2026 season.

The show promises high-flying aerialists, lightning-fast jugglers, the heart-pounding cage of death with high-speed motorbikes, incredible acrobatics, side-splitting clowns, and nonstop surprises over its 90 minutes.

Five different show times include Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.

📽 Movies at the Monarch

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

A pair of movies will be showing this weekend at the historic Monarch Theatre in downtown Medicine Hat.

Movies will start both Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Showing on Friday is Hamnet, a 2025 historical drama set in late 16th-century England. Based on a 2020 novel, the film dramatizes the family life of William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes Hathaway, as they cope with the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet.

Then on Saturday, a screening of Steel Magnolias, a 1989 comedy-drama about the bond a group of women share in an American small town and how they cope with the death of a friend.

The first 75 guests on Saturday will receive a grab bag curated with gifts from local businesses. The Monarch will also have raffle baskets for all attendees to enter.

Payment is cash only at the Monarch, with a $5 admission fee for each movie. The concession has two items for $5.

🥁 Premium Sausage Anniversary and Family Fun Fair

SATURDAY

Premium Sausage hosts a family fun fair at their Seven Persons location on Saturday to celebrate their anniversary.

There will be deals in the store from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with free cake and coffee while supplies last, and door prizes to be won.

There will be several activities.

• Parade starts at 9:30 a.m.
• Fundraiser BBQ from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Spring Market at Community Hall from 10 p.m. to 3 p.m.
• Show and Shine from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Kids Zone from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• 7 Skies Observatory from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Community Resource Centre at 45 Ross St. in Irvine is hosting a Mother’s Day Plant Sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Proceeds will go towards programs at the Irvine Library.

📕 Dungeons and Dragons in the Library

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Public Library hosts this event for Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts or beginners aged 13 to 19.

This begins a two-session series on Saturday, with the next session on the following Saturday.

It runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. both days, and those who register are asked to ensure they can attend both sessions.

It includes premade characters and dice available to all players, or you are invited to bring in your own level 1 character.

This is in partnership with Pop Up Parks.

🚴 BMX Free Trial Day

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat BMX Club hosts its first of four BMX Free Trial Days on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Allowing riders to try BMX at the track located northwest of the Big Marble Go Centre.

Future events will take place on May 23 and June 7 from 11 am to 3 p.m. each day, and June 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Riders will need to bring long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and runners. If you have a full-face helmet, gloves, or a bike, bring them along. If not, the club will help with gear.

🏛 Living Threads Workshop: Wearable Art Inspired by the Land

SATURDAY

The Living Threads Workshop: Wearable Art Inspired by the Land takes place at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The event is for those 18 years of age and older.

Tickets are available through tixx.ca.

The textile workshop draws inspiration from the large-scale fibre sculptures of Heather Shillinglaw. Rooted in Indigenous medicinal plants and fungi from the Cold Lake region, her work explores the impacts of colonization on traditional practices.

The experience begins with a smudging ceremony and introduction to the work, creating space for reflection and exchange. Guided by the artist, participants will create a mini quilted textile pin using hand sewing and beadwork, with all materials provided.

Open to all experience levels.

✍️ Collective Voices Live at the Library

The Medicine Hat Public Library’s Honor Currie Room will be the location for Collective Voices Live hosted by the Medicine Hat Rhyme and Reason Writers’ Club on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Readings and presentations of creative writing will take place.

It’s a free, family-friendly event.

🕊 The Messenger Film Screening and Bird Presentation

SATURDAY

In honour of Migratory Bird Day, the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program will be hosting a free film screening of the documentary The Messenger in partnership with Grasslands Naturalists and the Medicine Hat Public Library.

This free event starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the library and will include information about local opportunities to support birds.

This includes the Spring Bird Count, the Bird Friendly City Initiative, and a chance to pick up the newly updated bird checklist for southeastern Alberta.

The movie is described as an artful investigation into the causes of the mass depletion of songbirds and the people working to turn the tide.

Registration is not required for this family-friendly event.

The Grasslands Naturalists will also be hosting a free guided bird walk earlier in the day, meeting at Police Point Park at 8:30 a.m.

🥍️ Badlands Sun Devils Lacrosse

SATURDAY

The Badlands Sun Devils Jr. B lacrosse team hosts the Calgary Axemen for a game at the Kinplex Arena on Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m.

Junior lacrosse returned to Medicine Hat after a seven-year absence, and the Sun Devils won their first home game of the season on April 25.

After a pair of road losses this is only their second game at the Kinplex.

🪅 Cinco de Mayo celebration at El Super Taco

SATURDAY

If you missed out on celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 5, you will have another chance at El Super Taco in the Box Springs Business Park this Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight.

There will be Mariachi Music by El Charro de Jalisco from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by Karaoke from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Food services will be available until 8 p.m. with drink services continuing through the evening.

A public reception is being held at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre on Saturday at 7 p.m. to celebrate three solo exhibitions.

Because of Her by Adrianne Williams explores the enduring presence and influence of women through layered, contemplative paintings rooted in memory, care, and collective lineage.

dlúne æîk’ãzñ – mouse spirit power by Heather Shillinglaw honours over 30 years of collaboration with her mother and Elder Shirley Norris Shillinglaw, inviting viewers into a grounded, attentive perspective shaped by Denesuline knowledge systems.

Time After Time by Caprice Hogg reflects a lifelong connection to the landscapes of the Canadian West, capturing moments of light, memory, and place through expressive oil paintings.

🚶🧘 Go and Glow for Bright Futures

SATURDAY

Go and Glo for Bright Futures is Ever Active’s first Medicine Hat fundraising event at Echo Dale Park on Saturday.

The event includes a 3-kilometre walk, roll or jog followed by Glo Yoga at dusk. The walk starts at 7:30 p.m. with the yoga to follow at 8:30 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to wear bright colours, bring glow sticks, and a yoga mat.

All proceeds raised for the event will stay in Medicine Hat to support Ever Active programs and initiatives in the community.

🍔 Mother’s Day Food Truck and Market Frenzy

A gathering of local food trucks is returning to Kin Coulee Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, bringing together a variety of local trucks and vendors for a midday community outing.

The event will include live music by Medicine Hat Music Lessons, Cuddles with a Llama, the Daniel’s Dill Dip Fairy, an airsoft gel blaster shooting range, The Sensory Bus, face painting, and a bouncy castle.

From the team that brought you Canada’s Ukrainian Nutcracker, Shumka: Back to Our Roots is a new performance that celebrates the power of Ukrainian dance.

The performance begins at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
