The final weekend of March has arrived, and several things are happening in Medicine Hat to keep you busy.

With snow on the ground, cool temperatures and more potential snow late this weekend, golf courses originally expected to open will be delayed.

The Environment Canada forecast for Friday is sunny with wind gusts up to 40 km/h throughout the day. The high for the day is 11 C, with an evening low at -4 C. A cloudy sky is expected at night, with a wind chill of -8 C overnight.

On Saturday, the sky is expected to clear later in the morning. Wind gusts up to 40 km/h in the morning. A daytime high of 7 C, with the wind chill making it feel like -8 C in the morning. Night is set to be cloudy with a low of -6 C.

Sunday’s prediction is cloudy with a high of 1 C and a nighttime low of -2 C. There is also a 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers in the evening.

🏒 Iceberg Classic

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Iceberg Classic takes over ice surfaces at arenas in the city for the annual youth 3-on-3 hockey tournament.

Games are being played each day at the Kinplex Arenas, Hockey Hounds Rec Centre, and the Big Marble Go Centre.

Age groups range from U9 to U13 for the event.

A progressive 50/50 draw takes place over the weekend through the Medicine Hat Health Foundation in support of the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital to support cancer patients in the area. Tickets are available online through this link.

🏊 Activities at the Big Marble Go Centre

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

Friday, there is Learn How to Play Disc Golf at the Big Marble Go Centre (BMGC) from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of throwing, aiming, and general course play in a fun, supportive environment. The program is offered in partnership with the Medicine Hat Disc Golf Club. Discs are provided. Registration is required online or at the desk as space allows.

Saturday has a pair of activities at the BMGC.

The Kinsmen Free Swim returns from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring your swim gear, friends and family and your gear for a few hours of fun in the pool. No registration is required. You just check in with customer service and make a splash! The Medicine Hat Kinsmen Club is the sponsor.

Teen Takeover also takes place on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Teen Takeover gives you exclusive access to the Big Marble Go Centre for two hours of non-stop fun. The first hour in the Fieldhouse with a Nerf Rival battle, then an hour of private pool time just for teens ages 13–17. Spots are limited, so registration is required. It is free for members and has a regular admission price for the public. Space is limited and can be booked online or at the front desk.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The WHL playoffs begin Friday night at Co-op Place, as the Medicine Hat Tigers look to repeat as league champs.

The first opponent in the way is the Regina Pats, who face the Tigers on two straight nights in Medicine Hat on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. each night.

The Tigers have dominated the Pats in the regular season, winning all four games. They also won all five games during the 2024-25 regular season.

Will Bryant and Lance Doll will have the radio broadcast on Wild 94-5, starting with the pre-game at 6:30 p.m. each night.

If you are travelling to the game, the Co-op Place Express will be operating from the Medicine Hat Mall’s Carry Drive bus stop location.

If parking is full at the Co-op Place lots, the City of Medicine Hat has advised on a few locations where you can and can’t park.

Overflow parking has been approved at the following partner locations nearby: 

• Kal Tire – Perimeter parking only (dirt lot permitted at your discretion)
• Farm Credit Canada/Cardinal Energy/CNRL – Perimeter only (no access beyond rear fence line)
• Fox Safety – Perimeter only (no access beyond rear fence line)
• Starks Plumbing & Heating – Perimeter only (no access beyond rear fence line) 

It is advised to follow all posted signage and respect restricted areas and private property.

The City states that on-street parking is still permitted in some locations.

These include Box Springs Way and Box Springs Street during the playoffs.

Parking in front of hydrants or near intersections is not allowed.

There is also no parking permitted on Box Springs Link or Box Springs Road, including the west side ditch.

📽 Movies at the Monarch

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

A movie is shown at the Historic Monarch Theatre each day this weekend.

Friday is Grumpy Old Men, a timeless comedy about exactly what the title says: a pair of feuding neighbours, John and Max, who have a long-running rivalry. The show begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Saturday is the time for the sequel, with a showing of Grumpier Old Men. The show begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.

The Sunday Family Matinee is a showing of The King of Kings on Palm Sunday. A new animated film produced by Angel Studios. It brings the story of Jesus to life for a new generation. The show begins at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 1 p.m.

Admission is $5, and the concession cost is $5 for two items. Payment is only accepted in cash.

🏷 Garage Sale at Redcliff Legion

SATURDAY

The Redcliff Legion is hosting a Garage Sale at their building in support of their 100th Anniversary Celebration. They will have their own table, and several others will have tables on site in the Legion building. It takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

🛍 Market at Hidgon Hall

SATURDAY

The Shop Local Market is at Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s Higdon Hall on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wildrose Rose Room.

Several vendors will be set up.

There is Free Admission for the public, and a concession will be open.

An easter egg hunt begins at 11 a.m.

📚 Activities at the MHPL

SATURDAY

Kids aged 4-6 can slink into sloth storycraft, with fun stories and creating a sloth craft at the Medicine Hat Public Library on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Then Saturday evening is TIC TAC Presents: Space Night for ages 13-19. A space-themed teen night complete with a black-light dance room, space trivia, do-it-yourself galaxy jars, and more. Snacks and pop are provided. Doors open from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. and then are locked for safety. The drop-in event ends at 9 p.m.

🎞 Spring Medicine Hat Film Festival

What Matters to Hatters presents the Spring Medicine Hat Film Festival, a bi-annual celebration intended to foster a sense of hope, resiliency, and connection in the community. The festival will showcase short films from Project UnLonely, as well as other local films never seen before. Following the film screenings, a panel discussion will offer space for dialogue, reflection, and connection. The event aims to bring people together and strengthen the community one film at a time.

It runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Public Library Theatre.

Junior A lacrosse will be on display at the Moose Rec Centre this Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Mounties are taking on the Raiders in a showcase that features top-tier talent and even includes alumni from the Medicine Hat Lacrosse Club.

🍃 Interpretive Centre Programs

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program (MHIP) is hosting Rhys’s Believe It or Not! on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Inside the Nature Centre theatre, a presentation about the wacky and wild facts of nature in our area. Some are true, some are made up. You decide. The indoor presentation is an all-ages event, is drop-in and free to attend.

The MHIP is also hosting Nature Photography, a guided nature walk about capturing the beauty of the great outdoors, on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
