Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: February 20-22

A short work week wraps up as Medicine Hat looks ahead to a cold but sunny weekend, according to Environment Canada.

Friday is expected to have a few flurries ending in the afternoon, then clearing, and a high of -14 C during the day with a wind chill of -20 C. Overnight lows are expected to be -25 C with a -22 C wind chill in the evening and -33 C overnight.

Saturday is sunny with a high of -11 C, and windchills are -33 C in the morning and -16 C in the afternoon, and a low of -20 C in the afternoon.

Sunday is also sunny with a high of -6 C during the day and a low of -10 C at night.

A risk of frostbite is in place all weekend.

🎙 Alex Mackenzie @ Esplanade

FRIDAY

The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre is set to host Alex Mackenzie’s Never Been Better tour at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Mackenzie’s stand-up comedy show is a fun, interactive performance that makes audiences feel like they’re spending time with a close friend.

The show is recommended for ages 18 and older, due to some profanity.

🐍 Medicine Hat College Ratters

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Rattlers teams are set for another weekend of action as both Women’s Basketball and Hockey play their final regular-season games.

The men’s basketball team also hit the court this weekend.

The basketball teams host the St. Mary’s University Lightning at the Snake Pit (Gym) on Friday, with the women playing at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.

The Hockey team will face the Olds College Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Moose Recreation Centre.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers are on the road Friday night to face the Lethbridge Hurricanes and will host the Hurricanes at Co-op Place on Saturday at the same time.

Puck drop for both games is at 7 p.m., with the radio broadcast hosted by Will Bryant on Wild 94.5 FM starting at 6:45 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday, he will be joined by Lance Doll on colour at 6:30 p.m.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs playoffs

FRIDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs quest for a Heritage Junior Hockey League championship continues with home games on Friday and Sunday night against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons during a second-round playoff matchup.

The Cubs, who had a bye in the first round, host the Bisons at the Kinplex Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and if necessary, 3 p.m. on Sunday.

📽 Movies at the Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Monarch Theatre in Medicine Hat has multiple movies showing this weekend.

Award-winning documentary Cutting Through Rocks will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Greatest Showman is underway at 7 p.m. on Saturday for a fun, visually stunning, and musical film.

On Sunday, the Monarch will present audiences with a family-friendly film, Monsters Inc., at 2 p.m.

Concessions are available each night, with cash-only admissions of $5.

🏍 Kickstart The Season 2026

SATURDAY

Badlands Harley-Davidson is inviting motorcycle enthusiasts to the “Kickstart the Season” event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Organizers say riders can bring their bikes to be entered into a draw, with additional giveaways and national sweepstakes entries available throughout the day.

The public event will also feature one-day-only deals on motorcycles, riding gear and parts as the dealership marks the start of the season.

🏺 Grand Opening of Cosmic Clay Studio

SATURDAY

Cosmic Clay Studio is set to host an opening event on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The come-and-go open house will feature live wheel-throwing demonstrations, a stamping station where visitors can create their own magnet, a live DJ and snacks.

Attendees can also enter for a chance to win a free class for two and learn more about the studio’s upcoming classes and offerings.

Magnets created during the event will be fired and available for pickup at a later date.

The family-friendly event takes place at 610 Kingsway Ave. S.E.

🥂 Alberta Food and Beverage Expo

SATURDAY

The Food & Beverage Expo is set to return to Medicine Hat from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, bringing together local producers, restaurants and industry professionals for a showcase of the region’s culinary scene.

The event will feature food and drink samples, product demonstrations and networking opportunities aimed at highlighting businesses from across southeastern Alberta.

Organizers say the expo is designed to connect vendors with consumers while supporting growth in the local hospitality sector.

Following the expo, an afterparty hosted by Casa Amigos will take place starting at 8 p.m. and running all night, featuring live music from Warehouse Cats, with no cover charge.

The expo is an 18+ event and runs at the Cypress Centre, with tickets available online for purchase.

🎨 Mixed Media Window decor

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Shabby Vintage Belle is hosting a two-day “Mixed Media Window Decor” event taking place at 1201 Kingsway Ave. S.E.

The public workshop invites Medicine Hat residents to design their own mixed media window décor, from 1 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday, allowing for drying time between sessions.

Participants will paint, stain, stamp and embellish a 15-by-23-inch window frame using transfers and other decorative techniques.

🌱 MH Interpretive Program’s Watershed

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is hosting Watershed for children aged 6 to 12 years old, to explore current environmental challenges and learn practical ways to help keep the ecosystem healthy.

The six-part series highlights topics ranging from local wildlife and native plants to water quality, where youth can earn a badge for each session attended, with a prize awarded to those who complete all six.

Registration is required at 403-529-6225, as space is limited, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is held outdoors starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Police Point Park, and participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.
