Medicine Hat City Council have a light public agenda on Monday

The agenda for the public portion of the Medicine Hat City Council meeting on Monday appears to be light.

The only new business listed is a recommendation for the appointment of Coun. Stuart Young, as Acting Mayor from Feb. 3 until March 19, 2026.

The position would act as fulfill the duties of the Mayor or the Deputy Mayor if they were unable to during that time frame.

Information items on the agenda include the rural renewal program status, updates on projects, policies, and bylaws from committees, outstanding council motions, economic development reports, and a list of development and infrastructure committee meeting action items from a committee meeting this month.

The closed session of the council meeting has four topics listed, and is underway at 2:45 p.m., with three hours set aside.

They include an advocacy discussion from Public Services, a business matter from the Development and Infrastructure Committee, a legal update referred by the Mayor’s Office, with an energy business matter set to take up over half of the time behind closed doors.

The meeting is open to the public at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
