Medicine Hat Tigers set franchise record with 18th straight win against Edmonton Oil Kings

Jan 14, 2026 | 11:27 PM

It took a shootout, but the Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2, securing their 18th straight win, setting a new franchise record for the longest win streak in Tigers history.

Noah Davidson and Andrew Basha both scored in the shootout for the Tabbies, while Jordan Switzer was sensational in goal.

Switzer turned aside 37 of 39 shots faced, making several highlight reel saves, including a save of the year candidate in overtime to keep the Tigers alive.

Kade Stengrim and Jonas Woo powered the Tigers offense in regulation, with Woo’s tally tying the game at two shorthanded, his third shortie of the season.

The Tigers powerplay went zero for four, but their penalty kill was outstanding, going six for six, including killing off a five-minute major.

The five-minute penalty was assessed to Tigers 20-year-old forward Ethan Neutens late in the second period for a hit that sent Oil Kings forward Dylan Dean face-first to the ice.

Dean did not move and was put onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

There was no penalty initially, but after the referees convened and the situation intensified, a five-minute major was assessed to Neutens for checking to the head.

The Oil Kings reported that Dean was responsive and able to move his extremities.

The rematch goes Friday night inside Co-op Place, where the Tigers will aim to extend their win streak to 19 consecutive games.
