Grab your heaviest jacket – you are going to need it.

The Weather Network has released its winter 2025/2026 forecast, and the upcoming season is set to be a chilly one.

They say a “very cold winter” is expected across Alberta, as well as a large chunk of the rest of Canada, as the La Niña weather pattern has returned.

The forecast calls for an “abrupt transition” to winter in early December after a milder fall, and the potential for a delayed start to spring.

Southern Albertans can brace for above-normal snowfall, while the central and northern regions will likely see typical amounts of precipitation.

Skiers can look forward to what will likely be a good season across the Rocky Mountains in terms of snowfall, both in Alberta and B.C.
