Giant Tiger is closing its Medicine Hat location in January

The Giant Tiger location in Medicine Hat will close its doors on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.

A sign is posted in the store announcing the closure, and a representative from the company has confirmed.

“The decision to close any of our stores is not taken lightly and is made with careful consideration and thorough analysis,” Manager of External Communication, Jessica Charbonneau said.

“Our priority is ensuring that staff and customers are supported, and we are working directly with impacted employees,” she added.

“We encourage customers to visit the next closest Giant Tiger located in Calgary or online at GiantTiger.com”

Located at 114, 3201 13th Ave. SE, the 21,000 square-foot discount retail and grocery store opened in the city in August 2006.

Giant Tiger was established in 1961 in Ottawa and has about 260 locations in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and New Brunswick.

The first Alberta location opened in Edmonton in 2003.
